After Sandy blew through on the night of October 29th last year, leaving the neighborhood minus electricity for the next four days, one of the rare bright spots was Left Bank. From Day One the staff managed to open the restaurant every evening, light a multitude of candles, and provide food, drink and camaraderie to all who found their way through the blackout to the cheerful little refuge at the corner of Perry and Greenwich Streets.

Remembering it as having been a rewarding experience for all concerned, the folk at Left Bank decided to mark the first anniversary … by repeating it. From October 30ththrough November 2nd, the food was served, and eaten, by candlelight. And on the walls were photostaken the night of the storm by Keith Michaels (WestView NewsBirdwatching columnist), and of the aftermath by Maggie Berkvist (WVN photographer), which will continue to be on display until mid-December.

In appreciation of having been spared Sandy’s full force, the restaurant arranged to donate 10% of the four nights’ proceeds to City Harvest – which came to a total of slightly over $2,000.
