One Sunday afternoon (12/4/16), a sidewalk tree became the most photographed subject in the West Village, as children gave it a hug and families posed in front of it for group selfies. Fiber artist and master crocheter, Polly Larkin, created 101 colorful squares that transformed this West Village tree into an object of style. Smile after smile, it was evident that homespun traditions still warm the soul.
This is Larkin’s second art installation, and it occupies a welcoming spot in front of Musée Lingerie, a recently opened lingerie boutique and art gallery, located at 119 Christopher Street (near Bedford Street).
Holly Boardman, Larkin’s niece and Musée Lingerie’s owner, seized the opportunity to showcase Larkin’s work: “I had no idea how appreciative everyone would be.” As passersby behold the unexpected sight, it is as though they are taking a step back in time. “It’s every crafter’s dream to be on display in New York City!” Larkin exclaimed.
