On October 21st, Governor Cuomo announced an allocation of $800,000 for an LGBT Memorial in Hudson River Park to “pay tribute to New Yorkers who have fought for equal rights”. He continued by saying that, “New York has a storied history of being [at] the forefront of the fight for equal rights and it is essential that we always honor people who sought to achieve fairness for the LGBT community.”

The memorial will be built in the Park, between Bethune Street and West 12th Street. The Governor has convened an LGBT Memorial Commission, which is soliciting designs for the memorial. One such design will be chosen in December.
