Chef Harold Moore to Introduce Two Yet-to-Open Restaurants at 14th Annual Taste of Greenwich House

By Joseph Salas

Chef Harold Moore, former executive chef and owner of the West Village’s Commerce, will be the Featured Chef at the 14th Annual Taste of Greenwich House on Monday, March 14th. Taste is a premier culinary festival featuring samples of known favorites and off-menu specialties from Village staples and groundbreaking eateries from across the city. Other restaurants scheduled to appear include staples like Annisa, The Little Owl, Market Table, and Left Bank.

Chef Moore has climbed the elite New York City restaurant ladder at a pace that indicates undeniable tenacity and an unyielding passion for the food industry.

Commerce, Moore’s much admired contemporary American eatery in the Village, closed unexpectedly last summer due to an issue with the restaurant’s lease. Since then, Moore has been focused on two new culinary endeavors—Commerce Sweet Shop, at Commerce and Bedford, and Harold’s Meat + Three, in the Tommie Hotel in Hudson Square.

Taste of Greenwich House will provide a rare opportunity for the public to sample dishes from Moore’s new menus before the restaurants open. Moore will personally be on hand at the event, hosting two tasting stations for each of his eagerly awaited, yet-to-open restaurants. In Taste’s Main Room, Moore will offer samples from Commerce Sweet Shop, a cozy five-seat affair featuring the acclaimed fried chicken and coconut cake from the now closed Commerce.

Gourmet ticket level guests will also get a first look at Moore’s latest concept, Harold’s Meat + Three, opening later this year in the Tommie Hotel. Popular in the South, Moore will be on hand to introduce New Yorkers to the “meat and three” concept, traditionally a cafeteria style featuring a choice of protein and three sides. Moore has updated this concept with fresh, seasonal sides, quality protein, stiff cocktails, and a high-end salad bar. At Taste, Moore will offer samples from the not-yet-released menu set to feature beer-can chicken, prime rib, whole roasted dorado, and a selection of Moore’s famous deserts.

Taste is the marquee fundraiser for Greenwich House, the esteemed West Village institution whose arts education, senior service, and behavioral health programs provide vital services to New Yorkers in need. Greenwich House programs provide treatment for victims of child abuse, medical care for home-bound seniors, after-school arts programs for urban youth, senior wellness classes, and counseling for adults struggling to overcome drug and alcohol addiction.

The 14th Annual Taste of Greenwich House is on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Metropolitan Pavilion located at 125 West 18th Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues).
