DONATE HERE

By Arthur Z. Schwartz

Hundreds of Northwest Village residents came out to PS3on October 15 to express opposition to a proposal to build condos on Gansevoort Street, between Greenwich Street and Washington Street. The condo, disguised to look like Meat Market buildings with awnings, will be one more step in the direction of eliminating the core elements of the Meat Market. Already, with the High Line beginning there, and the Whitney down towards West Street, the area has become extremely high brow (and loud, especially at night.)

The Community Board has opposed the plan but the only permit needed is from the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC). The LPC will be holding a hearing on November 10 at 9:30 am, on the 9th Floor of the Municipal Building, One Center Street. They need to vigorously hear from us.
