Following up “Some Notes about Grand Juries,” WestView News, January 2015, a Staten Island judge has denied a request by several organizations to release the Grand Jury minutes in the Eric Garner matter.

On March 19, Judge Garnett held that the applicants had failed to show a “compelling and particularized need” for release of the minutes, and that if the public interest in disclosure was the overriding reason for the applications – as here – it was up to the legislature, not the courts, to change the law.

The applicants have said they will appeal this decision.
