Horse Nonsense (NY Times Editorial 8 December) hits the nail on the head. Like the Mayor, I love horses, but I want to keep them in the city, whereas he wants to address an unfounded cruelty allegation by banishing them to horse heaven. It would be as if he addressed the poverty problem by banning poor people from the city.

For millions of us, including children, these horses and their devoted drivers and elegant carriages will be the only ones we will see in our lifetime. Everyone knows they are well cared for by their devoted owners, everybody, that is, but Mayor de Blasio and political backer and developer Steve Nislick, founder of NY CLASS, who attempted to buy and destroy, with former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s cooperation, the renowned High Line. Now this new political duo would destroy another popular park experience.

We should protect our most treasured attractions. The Landmarks Preservation Commission wisely decided last week to reverse their impulsive decision to remove landmarks calendared for public hearing. The Mayor should follow its example and reconsider his rash commitment to NY CLASS. He should treasure and love our horses, not ban them from their home and our lives.
