WestView Letter August 2014: Hi George,

Hi George,

I was glad to get my copy of WestView today. I’m very grateful.

One note: Zephyr Teachout, candidate for Governor whom I heard tonight at Bunga’s Den and like very much, is quoted in your paper as saying that Cuomo could have saved St. Vincent’s by telling the Health Commissioner (Richard Daines, at the time) to encourage Mt. Sinai to take St. Vincent’s over by increasing the Medicare reimbursement. The problem is that Cuomo was not Governor at the time. It was Paterson. Cuomo was Attorney General. St. Vincent’s closed on April 30, 2010. Cuomo’s term as Governor began January 1, 2011. Now, in the actual quote, she simply says “Governor.” The picture caption says she’s referring to Cuomo. Could this have been an editorial mistake?

I don’t want to be picky. I would love to see a clear statement about what happened that fateful time when St. Vincent’s fell. Believe me. I want to see politicians who care about it, and Teachout seems to. I’m glad your paper does, too.
