I immediately registered with this free website after reading about it in The New York Times last month. Its developer, Aaron Foss, was a winner of the FTC’s Robocall Challenge last year (robocalls have skirted the FCC’s “do not call registry”). His service answers and hangs up on automated calls before the home phone rings. It works only for landlines which use VoIP—i.e. Verizon’s FIOS but not its regular service. My service is Time Warner Cable. Mr. Foss is quoted as saying it can recognize and allow “good” automated calls, such as calls from a school system.
Unsurprisingly, it’s not 100% perfect. However, I can go for days without any robocall. Or, sometimes my phone cuts off after two rings. I can live with that; I just wait a bit before checking.
These calls were causing me more stress than I even realized until I read about Nomo. I’m now keeping a log and analyzing the situation rather than swearing. Thank you Aaron Foss and keep on keeping ahead of them.
