In response to September’s “presentation by MTA NYC Transit of revised proposal concerning a new north-south bus route for the far west side of Manhattan,” Community Board 2’s Traffic and Transportation Committee’s Resolution pointed out thatthe uptown segment of the route along Hudson to 14th Street (originally planned for Greenwich Street) was redundant, duplicating the M20 route; also that Washington Street was far too narrow and congested, and already too heavily trafficked, to accommodate a southbound bus service. It thanked the MTA for their presentation, butopposed the implementation of the route, reminding the Authority that, in fact, the residents felt there was no need of an additional bus route through their neighborhood. The Resolution also suggested that if the MTA nevertheless insisted on a new north-south route it should run up and down West Street. Finally, the Committee added that what the residents would appreciate would be restoration of some discontinued services, including the M3 on University Place, the M1 and M6 in SoHo and the late night schedule on the M8.
The Traffic and Transportation Committee’s Vote on the CB2 Resolutionwas …“Unanimous in favor.”
