GOING, GOING …? Despite the best efforts of the men of NYFD Squad 18 and their West 10th Street neighbors to save it,by the end of October the mural will probably be ‘Gone.’ As a member of Squad 18 explained to WestView News, the old door is actually somewhat dilapidated and, as part the current renovation of the historic firehouse (originally established in 1865),will be replaced by a new, more practical door – minus mural.
To make sure it will not be lost forever, however, until they can find a permanent neighborhood home for it the Squad has plans to keep it upstairs in the firehouse – and, hopefully,to allow visiting privileges to tourists and localfansin need of a nostalgia fix.
