The Daily News reported the death of its 46 year old Real Estate Editor Jason Sheftell.
Jason was, for a time, the Managing Editor of WestView News and one of the most professional we’ve ever had.
Not too long ago, I called him about his Daily News article on the conversion of the former New York Telephone Company building at 140 West Street into luxury apartments. He was helpful and had some good things to say about WestView (he lived in the West Village).
The News reported that he died in his sleep and was discovered by a friend who had a key. Andromache commented, “He was lucky,” implying he was spared the lonely and awful contemplation of death from a terminal disease.
Jason lost perhaps 40 years of life and I thought what he might have done with those years.
Could he have become a great investigative reporter?
Then I thought of the growing list of great contributors to WestView using their experiences and writing skills to reveal the egos, money, and politics behind the changing events in the West Village.
In their words, Jason still lives…
