The West Village townhouse that once served as a base of operations for embezzler/fraudster/sketchy philanthropist Marco Stoffel has returned to the market for $19 million, after changing hands this August for $11 million. It has been reported that the current owner may be Tory Burch’s ex-husband, J. Christopher Burch, a venture capitalist.
In 2009, Stoffel was ordered, by the New York State Supreme Court, to repay the $36.5 million he had stole from a European family trust of which he was in charge. Stoffel’s whereabouts are unknown, with one report claiming he has moved to Argentina and another, to Switzerland.
Occupying 6,200 sq. ft., the five bedroom house is one of a scattering that also boasts a private carriage house providing high ceilings, skylights and brick walls. The space is currently used a basketball court, but potential ideas include a screening room, yoga or art studio. The property also offers views of the Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower.
