Charles Barron – only politician listening
Hello,
This is for all the local leaders and elected officials who approved the Rudin-NS-LIJ plan for luxury condos and townhouses, with a standalone emergency room, to take the place of St. Vincent’s Hospital–plus the leaders who could have objected or investigated, or blocked the plan effectively, but didn’t. No doubt this list is incomplete.
The one exception is the courageous Charles Barron, who is being addressed solely because he had the courage to speak out for a hospital for the lower west side of Manhattan. He stands out from all the rest. He deserves bouquets by the bushel. I’m afraid that, on this issue, anybody who could have effectively opposed the Rudin-LIJ plan but didn’t deserves rotten tomatoes by the roomful.
Aren’t the other politicians on this list deeply ashamed if they didn’t lift a finger? They should be. They should apologize to the approximately 1.5 million people they have helped to rob just in order to get the comfort and assistance Bill Rudin can give them, with his money and influence. Aren’t they ashamed they’re not like Charles Barron?
Most of you, one way or the other, have repeatedly asserted that you wanted a hospital for the lower west quadrant of Manhattan. Will anybody from this list come forward with a plan?
Has anybody issued an RFP? Does anybody have an architect lined up? Where are the funds? Best of all, what’s the location? What’s the timeframe? Whom are you reaching out to for a hospital?
You are among the most knowledgeable people on earth when it comes to city planning. You know you can’t just call for a hospital. That’s the sort of thing the Bluebird of Happiness does–wish and wish for something. You know there’s a process. Who’s initiating it? Who’s getting the ball rolling, in other words? What are the steps?
Does anybody know?
If you don’t know, you’ve been trying to fool us all. It hasn’t worked.
People are dying for lack of timely access to a hospital. Show us you care more for people than you do for wealth and power, with fat campaign chests and loads of connections for your next step toward.
Where’s our new hospital going to be?
Will anybody take a crack at it?
Sincerely,
Carol F. Yost
