What do you think of when you think of libraries? Probably books, computers, maybe even classes and programs. At Jefferson Market Library, we’re trying to expand the role of libraries in the community, opening up to things we’ve never done before. This June, we’re bringing art, design, competition, and creativity into our space with our 12 Hour Fashion Show.
On Friday June 3, eight talented local fashion designers will descend on Jefferson Market, taking over our community rooms all day to design looks inspired by the Greenwich Village neighborhood.
At 8:00 pm, they’ll be showing their creations to the community, and three judges, on a runway in our second floor reading room for a chance at a $1,000 prize. And the models for the show? NYPL librarians!
We’re thrilled to bring these local designers into the library, and give them a chance to create, connect, and compete. The runway show is open to the public, so you can come show your support, and see some cutting edge fashion in the process!
You’ve seen what we’ve done with our Jefferson Market University classes: brought college level learning to the library public. With the 12 Hour Fashion Show, we want to show you that the library is not just a place to learn, but also a place to create.
