Openings:

In Chelsea Market, in the space that used to house Ruthy’s Bakery and adjacent Café:

Recently opened:

Davidovich Bakery serving bagels, muffins, danishes, savory pastries. Their original store is in the Essex Street Market

• Seed + Mill selling homemade flavored halvah and tahini. They grind their own sesame seeds on the premises. Also available, soft goat-milk ice cream

• The fourth location of Li-Lac Chocolates

• Cappone’s Italian Specialties/Salumeria featuring Italian Heroes—replacing the one in Gansevoort Market which will be closing soon

Coming soon to the same space in Chelsea Market:

Dizengoff, a Middle-Eastern restaurant from a Philly chef

Berlin Currywurst

Filaga Pizzeria—seems to be related to L’Arte del Gelato, also in Chelsea Market

Kosaka—a sushi bar and Omakase restaurant at 220 West 13th Street

Black Tap Burger at 248 West 12th Street—the second location of this restaurant, winner of the people’s choice award at the New York City Wine and Food Festival Burger Bash, on lots of top burger lists, and featured in a BuzzFeed post entitled: “This NYC Restaurant Created The Most Insane Milkshakes You’ll Ever Eat”

Babushka on MacDougal Street near 8th Street, serving all types of Russian dumplings and borscht

Paul Smith at 357 Bleecker Street

Hao Noodle & Tea, Madam Zhu’s Kitchen at 401 Avenue of the Americas, the old Gobo space

CVS at 475 Avenue of the Americas (old Food Emporium space) should be opening in late March

Gustorganics space—construction going on, will be a Chinese restaurant according to workmen

Shorty’s Authentic Philly Steaks and Sandwiches is applying for a liquor license in the Kin Shop space

Pommes Frites which was destroyed in the 2nd Avenue gas explosion will reopen at 128 MacDougal—signed lease in June but had issues with obtaining permits for construction because of Landmarks issues. Projected to open in the first few months of 2016

asian kitchen MIGHTY bowl at 120 MacDougal Street in the old Crif Dogs space. Inspired by Bangkok street food, expected to open in early 2016

Closings

• Brooks Brothers Black Fleece at 351 Bleecker Street

Greenwich Gallery Frame Shop at 462 Avenue of the Americas closed on 1/20 after 10 years at that location and 18 years in the Village.

Marc and Max at 342 Bleecker Street

The Garage Restaurant at 99 7th Avenue South

Citibank on Christopher Street near Sheridan Square

La Gringa Mexican restaurant at 82 Christopher Street

Albertine at 13 Christopher Street, re-opening in February as FAIRLIGHT

• Dolce Gelateria at 33 Barrow Street

Gansevoort Market will be gone by the beginning of February. Some of the stands, like Bangkok Bar are relocating in the neighborhood, others, like The Bruffin Café would like to but do not yet have a new location
