WestView Letter May 2014: Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

Thank you for Mr. Benepe’s fine article in support of the carriage horses. As he stated, if Mayor de Blasio’s argument is reasonable, and “it is inhumane for the…horses…to breath in auto exhaust” then should “cyclists, pushcart vendors, police,…or anyone on the streets for long periods …breathe the same air?” Obviously, following the Mayor’s logic, most of us, along with the horses, should leave.

New Yorkers are quickly ruing the day that 76% of the mayoral voters stayed home. In fact, de Blasio’s “mandate” was actually won by 18%, while the remaining 83% either voted for someone else or didn’t vote at all. If we are going to truly rule by majority again, the carriage horses should stay in Central Park, as 63% of the citizens love them and want them to.
