In the April 2014 WestView issue, our own Barry Benepe came out to keep the horse drawn carriages in Central Park. Then bang, in April 15 Times appeared a letter from Irish-born actor, Liam Neeson who says the same – keep the horses.
“I will ban them from the park my first day in office,” were Bill de Blasio’s campaign words and now he is for letting the City Council vote on it later this year – hmm.
Barry claims a real estate developer, Steve Nislick, funded the campaign to retire the horse and block Chris Quinn as a way to condo the stables.
Actor Neeson, who as a kid rode and brushed the coats of his aunt’s two horses, feels that “horses like people are happiest and healthiest when working.”
