After graduating from Columbia University, Terrence McNally moved in with playwright Edward Albee who lived on 10th Street in the Village between 6th and 5th Avenues. His first play And Things That Go Bump In The Night starring Eileen Heckart was dismissed by all of the daily critics. Today, McNally adds up 20 plays on Broadway to his credit which include musicals like Ragtime and The Ritz. His Love, Valor, Compassion about a group of gay men on Fire Island won a Tony Award and the controversial Corpus Christi suggested that Jesus may have been gay. A dyed-in-the-wool Villager, McNally has over the years lived in apartments on Barrow Street, Perry Street, Jones Street, on 10th Street at Bleecker and for the last 20 years, in a duplex on 9th Street and University where he lives with his husband Tod Kirdahy, a lawyer and producer of his latest play now on Broadway, Mothers and Sons starring Tyne Daly.
