“In strategic sessions, Ms. Quinn can speak colorfully of other law makers, often saying, ‘I’m going to cut his balls off.’”
This Christine Quinn quote appeared in the New York Times on March 26 and documented her flat-out bullying and even vindictive rage directed at controlling City Council members.
In one instance cited by the Times, funding for Elizabeth Crowley’s district was cut because Quinn felt crossed by Crowley for not sharing credit for a firehouse rescue. The Times goes on to report that “Ms. Quinn had cut the contribution to senior centers and youth sports programs.” The article ends by Quinn equivocating but not denying the vindictive cuts.
Contrast this to an article in the Wall Street Journal (February 27 2013) based on the Marist poll of some 700 New Yorkers. “Quinn has the backing of 37% of registered Democratic voters, placing her close to the 40% she needs to avoid a runoff.”
The WSJ article was written by Michael Howard Saul who evidently did not, as I did, interview Professor Lee Maringoff and discover that the poll was based on a little over 700 responders at a very early point in the electoral process; it was “only top of the third inning.” Saul returned to report the growing City Council rebellion pushing to pass the paid sick leave bill over Quinn’s arbitrary hold up that is preventing a vote.
What is important is to contrast the Times article of March 26, revealing a foul language bully, with the WSJ article of February 27 giving the election to Quinn and the March 26 WSJ article that the tide was turning and if City Council members believe she is not a shoe-in to be our next mayor, they will turn their pent-up resentment to collective rage and fall upon her with collective daggers.
Bloomberg has already turned his back on Quinn with her crossing him on banning large sugary soft drinks.
I do not believe that any of the several candidates for mayor can make it without the New York Times endorsement and I also believe Quinn cannot make it if they are against her, which they obviously are. Thus, I will make a prediction.
Chris Quinn will not be the next Mayor of New York.
