One Vanderbilt Avenue Rendering, From Above Kohn Pedersen Fox is designing one of the tallest buildings in New York City for SL Green developers. The building’s roof will reach 1,301 feet into the air, and a spire will extend to 1,401 feet. The ground floor and cellar levels will have $220 million worth of transportation improvements, such as a 4,000-square-foot transit hall that will be an extension of Grand Central’s waiting area. The lowest level will link to “East Side Access”, the MTA’s multi-billion-dollar effort to bring Long Island Railroad trains from Sunnyside Yards to Grand Central. SL Green’s transit funding is secured in exchange for a notable upzoning, which allows for a larger building. Image courtesy of SL Green.
