The Village Independent Democrats held their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 9 at St. John’s Church on Christopher Street. Erik Coler, standing in for club president Nadine Hoffman, reported on a variety of club activities. District leader Keen Berger reported on Democratic Party activities, including her own proposals to reform the New York City Board of Elections, which came under severe criticism over its performance during the recent primary election.
There was a report by the campaign committee, which included petitioning for club endorsed Deborah Glick to Assembly, and efforts to get out the vote for the June 28th primary, in which club supported Representative Jerry Nadler is running for the party endorsement.
There were brief discussions of the rumored closing of D’Agostino’s supermarket and the closing and/or downsizing of Beth Israel Hospital. These discussions will continue as more concrete information becomes available.
Lastly, club endorsements for Manhattan Civil Court were announced for Margaret Chan, Josh Hanshaft and Emily Morales-Minerva.
