DONATE HERE

Dear WestView:

After writing over a half dozen articles on the need for housing on Elizabeth Street based on facts and figures, I’ve finally come across a more obvious argument right here in the pages of WestView. On page 17 of the February issue there is an article by an elderly person desperately trying to find housing (“Uprooted” by Mitchell Donian). There may be thousands of people like him around the city, along with hundreds of thousands waiting for NYCHA and Section 8 housing, or just fighting their landlords to hold onto what they have, who need housing right now. They can’t wait for the 5 to 10 to 20 years it might take to build housing on Hudson Street or the other imaginary alternative sites proposed by the supporters of the Elizabeth Street garden. Build housing on Elizabeth Street already, and build it now.
