Temporary Closing of Gourmet Garage

Gourmet Garage, located at 117 7th Avenue South (between West 10th and Christopher Streets), has announced a mid-August temporary closing. The building owner needs to install columns to reinforce the building in order to add additional floors for new residential apartments. (The accompanying rendering illustrates the design proposal by Cruzen Samton Architects.) The New York Sports Club on the second floor closed earlier in July. The plan is for a six-week closing of the grocery space. Gourmet Garage employees report that they are being placed at other chain locations during the disruption. WestView will continue to report on developments at this, and other sites, in the West Village as they occur.

This location is now closing for good on November 27, 2018. The 2017 temporary closure ended up being 3 months. You can’t send customers elsewhere for 3 months and survive, especially when the prices then flew up. Thanks again, luxury housing!
