I just picked up a (slightly damp) copy of WestView, and opened it to find—SHAZAM!—a gorgeous two-page layout of my Bird of the Year article!!

I am amazed. It has been nearly six years since, on a whim, I submitted my first article to WestView about the birds that I happened to see in the neighborhood while walking Millie (then a newbie to our household). That was February 2011! Since then, writing has opened my eyes to so much and allowed me to learn a great deal about the neighborhood, through the birds that live here or pass through. AND I have met an incredible number of people who run across the street to tell me about their latest sighting or avian mystery, because, first they recognize Millie, and then ask, “Are you that bird guy?”
I am indebted to your confidence in my whimsy, which has allowed me to pursue all of the different “angles” of Birding with Millie that you have printed in WestView over these years.
