On Thursday, August 18th, the Village Independent Democrats held their monthly meeting at St. John’s Church on Christopher Street. Club president Nadine Hoffman reported on a variety of Democratic Party political activities, including State Committee and Judicial Delegate races. (Judicial delegates help to select candidates running for a variety of judgeships.) Tony Hoffman gave an update on club-organized buses, which take volunteers from Union Square to Pennsylvania every Saturday to assist in election work there. He also reported on Candles for Clemency, which is pressuring Governor Cuomo to increase his use of clemency for appropriate long-term state prisoners. The group is tentatively planning a demonstration in front of Cuomo’s Mount Kisco home on Saturday September 17th. Erik Coler reported on activities in support of club-endorsed Assemblymember Deborah Glick, including sidewalk leafleting and canvassing with her. Glick herself came and gave a report on activities in Albany and local issues, including housing and zoning.
