Dear Mr. Schwartz,

NOT FORGOTTEN: Edwina Fontaine's memory lives on, especially for those close to the world of dance.

memory lives on, especially for those close
to the world of dance.

Thank you for your articles about Edwina Fontaine in WestView News. Most of all, thank you for the loving care you so generously gave to her. Thank goodness for Calvary Hospital for the dignity and comfort she received in her final days.

I studied ballet with Edwina Fontaine at Carnegie Hall beginning in 1967 at age eight. Miss Fontaine was very elegant, a bit intimidating, and quite demanding. Her classes were slow and methodical, and her standards were high. Looking back I can say that I am truly fortunate to have had my initial training from such a gifted and memorable teacher.

Although I moved on at age twelve, I have never forgotten Miss Fontaine and the great impression she has had on my life. As I begin my 37th year as director of Ballet Academy East I would like to say, “Thank you Miss Fontaine for opening the door to the dance world for me.”
