It is hard to believe but for six years there has been a forty-foot-long construction fence covering two buildings under renovation on the North side of West 4th Street between 10th and Charles Street.

The building belongs to the daughter of billionaire George Soros whose main dwelling of, we assume, considerable size is in Westchester. This modest 25 million dollar or so complex of two joined townhouses is just someplace to stay after the theater.

The most irritating aspect of this years-long construction is that the fence leaves only inches to walk on and for six years pedestrians have had to awkwardly maneuver past what has become the longest renovation in the West Village history with no sign of completion.

I mean, Miss Soros has broken no laws, (evidently you can be under construction forever and ever—witness the Chumley saga) but it does demonstrate the contempt of the one-percent.
