WestView Letter January 2013: WestView – personal blog?

WestView – personal blog?

Dear Editor,

I was surprised by Publisher George Capsis’s recent cover article on Hurricane Sandy and by the mind-boggling extent of his self-absorption. In light of the fact that people lost loved ones, homes, beloved pets, and all of their possessions, the fact that he wrote about his car getting wet on Pier 40 seems trivial by comparison, especially as a feature article on the front page — when people are still without power and homes. Most people weren’t “notified” to move their cars — they did it on their own, figuring that it was logical if parked on a pier or under a tree. As many as 29,000 car owners were affected by Sandy. In addition, there are also people who can’t afford cars, or to park them on pier 40, so those readers wouldn’t care about his car, either. Everyone has a Sandy story to tell, so his seems more suited for a personal blog. I don’t think the West View News is his personal blog, or is it? I’m not sure anymore, because the West View News seems to be increasingly about his own personal battles and viewpoints. Maybe it should be re-named.
